Here it is the big one, Game Design.
Have you ever played a game and thought I could have done this or I would have done it that way!
Well now you can, there is nothing stopping you from downloading the relevant software and building your own game.
There are plenty of videos out there that will help with your journey of AAA games.
So where does Blender 3D come into it?
Well in order to create your games you will need assets, assets are 3D items that go into your game. So if you where creating a FPS you could create containers, barrels, big rocks to hide behind, weapons, ammo.. you get the idea, well these will be done in Blender 3D!
So first of all you will need a game idea, in order to make the process enjoyable I would do something that you like, so for me I like maze and horror games so I would go down that idea.
You could have:
- First Person Shooter
If you are new to all this I would start with something simple and then as you learn more about game design, modelling, texturing, coding you can make your game better.
So which game engine do you use?
Well I guess that is down to you and what you feel comfortable with.
I use both Unity and Unreal depending on what I want out of the game, I have used unity for mobile games and apps and Unreal when I was building a VR education program. I’m also using Unreal for the game I am currently designing as I prefer the lighting.
Personal Edition is Free but the Unity splashscreen will always be there. Fantastic asset store if you are feeling lazy, you can even buy full game assets!
$40.00 per month gets rid of the unity splash screen and there is also a few extra benefits. There are other licensing options available but these are more for game design studios. I would stick with the Personal edition, you can earn up to $100K before having to upgrade.
For coding you need to learn C#, I love C# coding as you can also use this to create software within other programs.
Unity is easy to use, as previously mentioned I use it for mobile games, apps and Augmented Reality apps.
Hearthstone was made with Unity, OTHER games made with unity.
Software is Free but you pay 5% royalties on game sales. For more inform you can find it HERE.
My personal opinion is this is the best for creating PC and console games. It’s easy to use, for coding they use Blueprints super easy to use, just like using nodes in Blender, obviously you will need to put some time in learning but thats the same with anything. Alternatively you can code using C++, again will take a lot of time to learn or just use Youtube to find out what you need to know to get the job done. 🙂
If you’re a Fortnite fan, that was made with Unreal Engine. OTHER games made with Unreal Engine.
I’m not going to favour one over the other because for me they both have there positives and negatives, it’s all down to which one you prefer to use.
Let me know how you get on and if you get your game published.
